Conceived in the spirit of the EU policy to develop an integrated European Research Area, the European Consortium for Asian Field Study, ECAF, is a unique alliance of more than forty leading European and Asian institutions active in the field of Asian studies.

The ECAF Consortium was founded in 2007 at the initiative of the French School of Asian Studies – Ecole française d’Extrême-Orient (EFEO). Read the Press Release ECAF launch.

Its principal aim is to provide field access and study facilities to European scholars through the sharing of a network of twenty-three existing research centres across Asia and to encourage joint interdisciplinary research programmes in the humanities and social sciences.

At a time when Asia is developing into one of the most influential regions in the world, ECAF will act as a forum for enhanced Euro-Asian dialogue and will encourage the exchange and dissemination of knowledge about Asian societies and civilizations.
