The EFEO Centre in Pune, Maharashtra, was primarily established to further studies on modern Indo-Aryan languages and literature. Since the early 1990’s the Centre has also hosted research in several areas. Work has also been carried out on the application of new technologies to philology, especially the adaptation of computer Internet languages (html, xml, xsl, etc.) to Sanskrit and other Indian languages.
