The branch office in New Delhi was established in 1963 – at the same time the South Asia Institute was founded in Heidelberg. Its main task is "building bridges" between India and Germany.
Principal activities
- strengthening partnerships between Indian scholars and academic institutions
and the South Asia Institute
- supporting the Memoranda of Understanding signed between the University of Heidelberg
and various Indian partner institutions
- promoting collaboration between local German and Indian institutions
- administering the Baden-Württemberg Fellowship
- promoting the work of the South Asia Institute in India
- organizing lectures, seminars, and workshops in the fields of the humanities, social sciences,
and cultural studies
- publication of our series "South Asia Studies"
- procuring books, journals, and other research materials for the library of the South Asia Institute.
