The Centre carries out research in the fields of Japanese history and civilisation, including intellectual history, comparative literature, religion, anthropology, and architecture. It houses a large library specializing in Asian religions (Sino-Japanese Buddhism, Taoism). The EFEO Centre operates in partnership with the Italian Scuola di studi sull’ Asia Orientale and the Kyoto University Institute for Research in the Humanities.
